The outbreak of the Coronavirus has been rapid and frightening.
As of today, four cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Germany, making it the second European country to report cases, after France. 100 people have been tested in the UK, with no cases confirmed positive to date - though there are predictions from scientists that it may have entered the country.
As organisations around the world fight to gain control over the virus, and cases rise to 6,000, overtaking the SARS outbreak of 2002 - 2003, there are a few key things that you can do to keep yourself safe.
There are a series of standard recommendations for the general public, which largely include hand hygiene as a key factor.
THEYE, UK manufacturer and worldwide distributor of travel protection products and accessories, has the below advice.
Nick Barker, Founder of THEYE, said: “During the outbreak, there are a few really simple ways that you can reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus - or any virus. Perhaps the most important thing is to frequently clean hands by using sanitising hand rub or soap and water. THEYE’s microspray comes in a handy and convenient size to travel with you, and kills 99.9% of direct contact pathogens.
Other things to ensure that you are doing is covering your mouth when you’re coughing or sneezing with a tissue, avoiding close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough, and make sure that if you’re sick then you stay home so that you can’t pass anything on. Finally, make sure you’re regularly and thoroughly cleaning surfaces - not forgetting countertops and doorknobs - with your household disinfectant. Whilst these steps seem simple, they are the most effective way to keep yourself and your family safe.”
